Though it is found out that good diet for total health should provide all the elements required for dental health, there are several precautions should be added on sugars and starches. One should refrain from eating sweets that are hard and sticky. Especially in between meals, there should be a limited intake of soft drinks, candies, cakes, cookies, pies, syrups, jam, jellies and pastries which are considered to be as highly refined sweets.
There should also be a control on the intake of starchy foods such as bread, potatoes, and pastas. Fresh fruits can contain natural sugars that can provide sweet flavors with much lesser risk of adding to the decay of teeth if teeth are regularly brushed after eating certain foods.
Each time sugar and other refined carbohydrates are eaten, decay is promoted and between meals and snack of sweet meals should be curtailed to be able to decrease the possibility of further caries. You may have snack foods that are raw vegetables, such as carrots or celery, apples, cheese, peanuts, or other items that are not likely to promote refined carbohydrates in between meal into the mouth. Gum disease can be prevented if you try to follow these steps.
